#1 trusted windows by homeowners and contractors alike

Andersen 200 Series #1 trusted windows

Andersen’s 200 Series Windows are made from solid pine wood and rigid vinyl unique to the company’s Perma-Shield® system. According to Remodel Magazine’s Cost vs. Value Report, window replacements consistently rank near the top of resale value projects. By replacing windows you can expect to recover 67% of your costs on average!

For additional cost savings, choose ENERGY STAR® certified options from Andersen’s 200 Series. By opting for energy efficient window replacement, homeowners save an average of 12% on energy bills. This article will share more details on energy efficiency below. But first, check out the materials that make up Andersen’s #1 trusted window.

Materials

Vinyl

Andersen’s 200 Series Windows uses rigid vinyl cladding as part of the patented Perma-Shield® system. Rigid vinyl cladding protects a solid pine core, resulting in superior strength to those made only from vinyl. Durable and affordable, vinyl remains the most popular choice in the U.S. for new construction and remodeling projects.

With Andersen’s 200 Series, you can choose between white and sandstone for elevated, classic curb appeal that lasts year after year.

Solid pine wood

Solid pine wood makes up the core of Andersen’s 200 Series as part of the Perma-Shield® system. You can choose between unfinished stain-grade pine and factory-painted white interiors for lasting strength and warm, sophisticated style.

Fibrex® composite material

Andersen’s 200 Series window trims utilize Fibrex® composite material. Fibrex® is a composite material unique to Andersen, made from reclaimed wood fiber and thermoplastic polymer. Fibrex®  is twice as strong as vinyl with over 700 times the thermal control and more flexible than fiberglass. Fibrex® is as smart as it is strong, minimizing waste by using reclaimed wood fibers from Andersen’s own production processes.

Benefits of Fibrex

Choose from 11 trim colors and 7 trim profiles designed to match 200 Series window options. You can also combine trim styles for a look unique to your home. Because trim coloring is blended into Fibrex® directly during production, you’ll enjoy pristine trim for years without fading, cracking, and peeling.

Andersen’s designs window trim to be installed easily and separately from the 200 Series Perma-Shield® water management system. Installation is easy and takes just about five minutes per window. By using a hidden attachment strip, trim can be installed on 200 Series Windows with zero nail holes to fill, and no visible fasteners or sealant joints.

The 200 Series offers three installation options for trim. Preassembled trim surrounds come directly from the factory, saving both time and money related to onsite measuring, cutting, and mitering. Precut kits can be assembled onsite with components that have been cut and drilled at the factory. Individual trim components can be fabricated and assembled onsite to minimize the likelihood of callbacks.

If you prefer to install your own trim or use existing trim, you can also opt out of trim selection.

Double hung windows are designed to remain flush with the wall and open vertically from both top and bottom sashes. You might choose double hung windows for the following reasons:

  • Ventilation options from the top, bottom, or both

  • Ease of cleaning from the inside of your home

  • Compatible with opening control devices, window guards, and air conditioning units

  • Installation facing areas with foot traffic including walkways, patios, and decks

Andersen’s 200 Series double hung windows feature solid pine wood interiors and rigid vinyl exteriors for lasting durability.

Additionally, Andersen offers half circle windows that match double-hung window sizes available in the 200 Series. See Andersen’s 200 Series product guide for details or get expert help by contacting SMA Exteriors.

Expand your vision by combining types

Available window types in the 200 Series options are streamlined for easy selection. By combining types you can add brightness, fresh air, and aesthetic appeal while staying on budget for your window replacement, remodeling, or new construction project.

Andersen’s 200 Series Windows can be joined horizontally, vertically, or both. Horizontal combinations are called “ribbons” and vertical combinations are called “stacks.” In ribbons, individual windows are joined together along vertical edges while the heads and sills are fastened to your home. By contrast, stacks feature individual windows joined along horizontal edges while the jambs on each side are fastened to your home.

A single ribbon or stack is considered a one-way combination. When multiple ribbons and stacks are joined together, the design is considered a two-way combination. Unlike one-way combinations, the windows in two-way combinations may have less than two edges fastened to your home. In particular, two-way combinations featuring windows with zero edges fastened to your home might require additional reinforcements.

SMA Exteriors has the expertise to install one-way or two-way combinations in your home. We can make sure your window combination is safe and complies with local building code requirements. Contact us to schedule a FREE consultation and estimate.

Award-winning glass for energy efficiency

Andersen 200 Series are energy efficient

Andersen is well known for their industry leadership in energy savings and environmental protection. In fact, the company has won eight awards from ENERGY STAR as Partner of the Year–Sustained Excellence. All 200 Series Windows are produced using a percentage of pre-consumer recycled content.

With Andersen’s 200 Series you can choose from multiple energy-efficient glass options that save you money and help the planet. Choose from the following options based on your preferences for regulating temperature, light, and visibility:

Low-E4® glass is a great overall choice for Minnesota climates. In addition to energy efficiency applicable both to heating and cooling your home, Low-E4® glass allows for ample light filtering and strong UV Protection. Add HeatLock® Coating for increased capacity to prevent heat from escaping.

SmartSun™ glass provides even stronger thermal control and UV Protection than Low-E4® glass. Andersen compares the thermal protection of SmartSun™ glass to tinted glass, with enhanced capacities if you choose HeatLock® Coating. SmartSun™ glass may be a good option for south-facing windows that receive many hours of direct sunlight.

PassiveSun® glass is another good choice for Minnesota climates. The glass allows the sun’s heat to pass through and keep your home warm and cozy.

Clear Dual-Pane glass offers the highest visibility of any 200 Series glass options, with basic thermal performance.

Additional options can increase the security and privacy of your windows. Tempered safety glass will reduce the likelihood of injury if broken. Patterned glass obscures visibility while maintaining light filtration.
